Bilboard Introduction

For ONE, for education for all

If the discrimination is defining as a non-equal treatment of one individual or group of people, because of the different ethnic, religious, sexual basis, if people are dividing based on the fact how much they are privileged or not, than we are truly in one reality that is very concerning. If the discrimination is a “soft” informing for the nationalistic feelings and denying the other nationalities in the Macedonian multicultural society, than I say that we have argent necessity to point out the problem.

Why am I saying this? Because we have more students that are not interested to learn something more about their co-students, that they refuse to be in the same table if the student is from another nationality and if he/she doesn’t wear branded clothing, if he/she doesn’t have brand new computer and mobile phone. In the books, notebooks and other materials used in education there aren’t information about the history of many nationalities that live in these areas. Lack of information and lack of knowledge is ruling everywhere, the success in a quantity is so weak, and the quality is a determinant on which we can’t discuss, yet.

The stereotypes and prejudices, and along with that the unequal treatment, rules on different basis. That’s why we have pure ethnic schools, so that we have pure ethnic classes, there are more than 70 percent unemployed Roma people, we have ghettoized environments so that we can end with the not knowing the language of the state that we are living in.

And people say that Macedonia is a multicultural environment and that the discrimination is not a problem.

All said above actually is canceling these thoughts and thinking and it confirms the questions that bothers me too. The official representatives are promoting multiculturalism that should be an example for whole Europe, but I say that the multiculturalism should be at least 80 percent of the total number of the citizens should receive their descent salaries on time and all the time, to know and to enjoy in their basic human rights, to speak at least two languages, to know what the tolerance is, to be ready to be voluntaries and to learn and to be happy for living in the Republic of Macedonia.

How idealistic sounds all this…But, without all mentioned above we can not live in the society that will have positive social values. The discrimination is going to spread like a disease and it will turn into nationalism and racial discrimination, which probably will end with conflicts.

And the Roma people throughout the history and now, in the modern time, were and stayed victims of a permanent discrimination, from the time when Mehmed from Ghazni took them as his slaves, through the time of Hitler and not recognized Holocaust of the Roma people, until today’s democratic Europe in the 21st century. Europe that allows terrifying murders like the one over Robert – father (24) and Robert (son) from Hungary, in front of their home that was burned down with the Molotov cocktail or the violent sterilization of the Roma women in Slovakia. Therefore, the discrimination on Roma people is present in the EU countries too, where, there are violently pushed out from their homes like in England, Turkey…and where the life of the margin of the society is everyday life for this people.

In order to avoid this, I’m asking to all who are going to find themselves in the articles of this edition of the magazine to take some measures, to create better future for the Roma people. I’m asking to adopt the proper Law for antidiscrimination as soon as possible, to implement the existing documents for improving the condition of the Roma people because they are incarnation of the discrimination on many basis as well as in Macedonia, like wise out of its borders.

For ONE tolerant and non-discriminating society in Republic of Macedonia.
